Today I finally got around to making a Fedora 17 Linux Bash Script to automate my yum updates. It’s been on my todo list for a few months since I migrated over to Fedora 17. This simple bash script will firstly update yum itself, then it will run a complete system update. Everything will be logged to a file for verification at a later date.
A reader commented on one of my images and wanted to know how to download and install the Fedora 17 Dark Theme DeLorean seen in my post Fedora 17 Desktop Install is Now Running. So here is a quick how to post.
DeLorean is a very slick and really beautiful dark GTK3 theme that is also very clean in its design allowing a relaxed usability that is always a difficult thing to achieve with dark themes.
I just recently found this nifty little Linux package called ‘Conky’. It’s a great way to monitor all sorts of things in Fedora 17 Linux. Most of the install guides and downloadable configurations are aimed at Ubuntu Linux, so I decided to write up this post to help anyone that stumbles along the same path as myself.
When I reformatted and installed Fedora 17 Linux, I needed a way to randomly change my background wallpaper. After about 30 minutes of google’ing, I could not locate any simple fedora 17 packages or pre-made extensions for GNOME 3. With the help from pender and kolo from this forum post I was able to get a stable script running. Below you can find the script and how to implement it into a working GNOME 3 desktop.
Last week I was having a nightmare with StarCraft II v1.5.2: Network DEsync Issues. To try and fix this I did a lot of drastic file removals. After this many windows programs were slightly disabled (If they weren’t already that way to begin with). I decided to do a complete reformat of my C drive and start from scratch again. It had been almost 3 years since I last reformatted so it was well overdue.
One of my mates has been urging me to migrate across to Fedora Linux. Being a hardcore gamer I was very sceptical at first, as I still needed to be able to play almost all windows games as they are released. He later informed about PlayOnLinux which makes the entire Wine configuration a breeze. With that knowledge I decided to give Fedora 17 a try.
Oh, BTW, after installing Fedora 17 Linux and PlayOnLinux. I then installed StarCraft II, 8GB download later I could login and attempt a Co-Operative game. You know what? It worked perfectly. So that fixed all my preivous DEsync issues. lol.
A few weeks ago one of my friends told me about this chat client that can roll all your online chatting accounts into the one program. After being told 3 or 4 times I finally decided to install it and give it a try, and I must say I was very impressed.
If you would like to stay logged into facebook chat, as well as MSN or Xfire, I highly recommend it.
I have made a few customisations to my dedicated server over the years, one of which is a custom login message with a full coloured display.
I have posted the code below for you all to inspect and use at your own discretion.
Have fun all!
