Since I have been using Fedora for a few months and I’m an avid gamer, getting games running is not as straight forward as initially thought. I have been having a lot of fun (if you can call it that) trying to get windows games running on linux. To help out fellow linux users I decided to post my test and trials to the Wine AppDB.
- Installs from Steam or Download
- Extra Features
What does not
- Launcher – Complains about missing config file
- Save Game – Unless using a patched wine version
What was not tested
- Complete game ‘Story Mode’ finished to the end
Install: From Steam or Download
Winetricks: d3dx9_40, directx9, dotnet20, dotnet30, dotnet35, gwfl, gfwl86
Runs with few slowdowns in full resolution (1920×1080) and high details on AMD Phenom x4 and nVidia GTX 260.
TO PLAY THE GAME
Load the game with ‘drive_c/Program Files/Batman Arkham City/Binaries/Win32/BatmanAC.exe’. Do not use the launcher it will complain about a misplaced config file.
TO ENABLE EXPANSION CONTENT – SOME VERSIONS
Go to the options and then run the Benchmark or load a game, then exit and go back to the main menu screen, the new option should appear.
TO ENABLE SAVE GAMES
Save game works as expected as long as you use wine version 1.5.3-xliveless2-rawinput3
